Leeds Beckett University is deploying Extreme Networks' campus networking solution and Wi-Fi 6 technology across its 85 buildings and its sports facilities. Leeds Beckett University is one of the first universities in the UK to deploy Wi-Fi 6. The deployment is part of the school's £200 million investment plan for campus development and construction over the next five years, which aims to support the school's digital transformation, provide a modern student experience, improve engagement, and support the school's 28,000 students and 2,900 students. employees drive achievements to make a difference.
To help enable student-centered digital transformation, Extreme Networks designed a custom network infrastructure based on Extreme Elements™, including Extreme Management Center™ software, Extreme Fabric Connect™ technology, ExtremeWireless™ Wi-Fi 6 APs and Extreme switch™ products. More than 2,000 Extreme Wireless Wi-Fi 6 APs will be launched in the next 12 months. A custom network enables remote access from anywhere on campus and provides greater network capacity, network security, and compliance while helping to improve efficiency.
New features include:
1. Best performance with Wi-Fi 6
Extreme Wireless Wi-Fi 6 solutions offer greater flexibility and higher bandwidth to support more devices, including IoT devices and advanced immersive applications. Purpose-built for challenging physical environments, these APs ensure seamless, secure Wi-Fi connectivity with performance up to 40 percent faster than previous Wi-Fi 5 and enable real-time social media sharing, video streaming and mobile applications Program usage provides stronger connections.
2. Real-time automatic control of network traffic
Extreme Management Center software provides a real-time, automated, end-to-end visibility and control path to the network. By leveraging automation to offload routine (often manual) work, Leeds Beckett was able to increase efficiency in day-to-day operations, reduce costs and improve performance across the campus.
3. Advanced edge network services
ExtremeSwitching allows Leeds Beckett to extend virtual network services to the edge of the network, overlaying multiple network layers into a logical service architecture and creating a centralized point of control. These edge network services create scalable, cost-effective networks that can support thousands of extended remote ports.
4. Web Simplicity
Extreme Fabric Connect removes network complexity, providing Leeds Beckett with a single next-generation technology to help optimize system availability, consolidate system and service resiliency, and enhance network visibility. This made it possible for the university to maintain a stronger and more resilient network than its competitors, while also being able to quickly and easily expand the network by adding new services.
5. Operation efficiency and safety
Extreme's fabric technology enables the school's IT services to extend the fabric to the edge and across campuses, providing roaming capabilities for staff, making their jobs easier, and simplifying service delivery for technology teams. Additionally, the Extreme technology stack allows for the logical and physical separation of user IoT technologies (and their associated inherent risks) from enterprise technology and information assets that require proper protection.
These capabilities complement Leeds Beckett's existing digital transformation initiatives and are fundamental in underpinning Leeds Beckett's position as an outstanding, accessible and globally engaged university. The new customized network architecture, especially Extreme Fabric Connect, the latest Extreme Management Center tool and Wi-Fi 6, not only provides the correct technical configuration, competitive TCO and reliability, but also meets the expansion needs of the student population.
